FNC celebrates 80 years
In these times of corporate responsibility, ethically traded products are becoming ever more popular.
80 years of great coffee
2007 was a landmark year for the FNC, who have been growing, processing and packing Buendia and other Colombian coffees for 80 years.
The FNC is the world's largest NGO, as a co-operative of 566,000 farmers. The systems that have been set up over the past 80 years have effectively transformed Colombia:
- All profits made are channelled into a National Coffee Fund.
- Investments are made to improve the infrastructure of the country - schools, roads and health centres.
- By working together, the FNC are better prepared and equipped to look after themselves in times of crisis.
How has the FNC been able to sustain and help the Cafeteros (growers) help themselves?
8 'Pillars of Support'
- Education
- Health and Social Security
- Housing, Water and Sewage Services
- Added Value and Commercialisation
- Generational Substitution
- Roads and Infrastructure
- Productivity and Tree Replacement
